CLANTONS AND MCLOWERYS

(learned orally in the 1970s)

(music to go here)

(music calligraphy by miriam berg)

The Clantons and McLowery boys, together they did ride.
Whenver they came into town, the people stayed inside.
The marshal down at Tombstone told them to keep away,
But the boys all said, We'll see you dead, 'cause we intend to stay,
    'cause we intend to stay.

Oh, what a fight there was that day, forget I never shall.
The marshal and the outlaws met at the old OK corral.
Have you ever seen a-walkin' there, my goodness, what a sight:
Four men so neat out in the street a-walking to a fight,
    a-walkin' to a fight.

The Clantons and McLowery boys, then they rode into town.
They told the people they had come to shoot the marshal down.
The marshal and his deputies started throwin' lead,
Mike Clanton ran when the fight began, and the others soon were dead,
and the others soon were dead.

Oh, what a fight there was that day, forget I never shall.
The Clantons and McLowerys died at the old OK corral.
The whole town was a-watchin' and the fight was really fair,
But no one cried when the outlaws died and no one seemed to care,
and no one seemed to care.
