BLIND WHITE SPIDERS
(written by Ray Nelson in 1956 to scare people half to death)
Two children playing in the wood;
A string at the entrance they did tie;
A thousand wonders they went by,
They never thought they would get lost
They never came out of that cave;
(from miriam berg's folksong collection)
They didn't play where they should;
They found a cave, but they didn't think they'd find
The blind white spiders in the cave.
And went in, candles held on high;
And in that cave were slimy walls all lined
With the blind white spiders in the cave.
Like a fairy kingdom in the sky;
And there midst rocks of ev'ry beauteous kind
Were the blind white spiders in the cave.
Because of that string that they had tossed;
And then they found that on that string had dined
The blind white spiders in the cave.
That great big hole, it was their grave;
And there they remain, because they wouldn't mind,
With the blind white spiders in the cave.
